Welcome to the DPL...
Welcome to the Damsel Preservation League or "DPL" for short. Contained herein, you'll find a multitude of damsels of all ages worthy of preservation, as well as many links to current artists & writers of the DID genre, and many old-school favourites. Although this is basically a research type blog, there may be some occasional "mature" themed comics so, beware of this. Also this blog & is moderated to keep the spam to a minimum. The majority of the images are ones I've personally "rebuilt" from either my own collection or scans found elsewhere on the 'net. Any applicable copyrights belong to the owners and I make no money from them. Also note that this blog is still a work in progress and will be added to as I continue along...

Here's another bondage & peril-laden tale from the pages of a Richie Rich comic. This one hails from Richie Rich Bank Book #14 (Harvey~December, 1974), and isn't the first time Richie has created a movie involving his girl friend, Gloria. But, like the other movies he's made, Richie hires an actress made up to look like Gloria (not that Gloria is exactly thrilled by all the attention, mind you...) I found this story particularly noteworthy for it's close parody to the "Perils of Pauline" genre. Gloria didn't agree and went storming off! Let's see what happens, shall we?

From Mary Marvel #4. Mary is left powerless and must use her wits and craftiness to over-come the bad guys. But when all seems dire, her powers return in the nick of time! The loss of power is explained by Shazam himself on page 3. As a bonus, I've included a partially restored cover scan at the end of the story...the scans here are culled from the DCM but I took a bit of time to do a few adjustments. Unfortunately, I could do nothing with the torn page corners. In any case, they are still quite readable ;)

And here's the last "Polly in Peril" tale from "Pixies #4". It's a "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" chair tie for Polly. Hope you've enjoyed this little series. I may have more in the future...
As and added bonus, here's the cover for "Pixies #5", which is a "gotcha" cover. The scene does not appear in the book, at least not with Polly ('tis Peter Pixie that gets trussed to the track...)

Here's another really cool artist that features the bulk of his work on DeviantART. Known to most simply as "Erikson1", he's been around for a while now. I first encountered him via a forum for "girl detectives in trouble" (or GDIT), back in 2007. His early work may seem a bit crude to most but, it's still way better than anything I'll ever be able to draw. Using his hand-drawn line-art with which he digitally colours, has led to incredible improvements as well as style over the past few years. He just keeps getting better!
Erikson will draw just about anything as long as one keeps it with a PG-13 type of rating. His work on Disney princesses is among my favourites but, he also does fantastic work on other's OC's ("original characters" for you laymen out there...) Though his prices do not come cheap, I think they are well worth it, considering the amount of time he has to spend on any given project. The bulk of the stories are illustrated from stories written both by himself and others. If you happen to visit his DA page (I've a link to it in the side-bar to the left there...), you should delve into his "scrapbook". There you will find literally thousands of alternate drawings (usually of gag & blindfold variations.) I've since dubbed Erikson the "Gag Master" and even attempted to reproduce a panel from one of his earlier story collaborations entitled, "The Fur Caper" (see my pathetic attempt below...)
|My pathetic attempt|
|The actual panel|
For a much better and complete example of the above mentioned story, including the cover, you can read/view it below...
Erikson just keeps getting better with every piece he does. At some point (and when I have more funds available), I hope to do a collaboration with Erikson but, it may be a while before this ever occurs. For now I'll just be content with viewing his work :) Now go visit his DA page and see what all my prattling is about :)

Apologies in advance for posting this in reverse but, I had to wait for the 2nd printing of KICK-ASS 3 #1 to hit the rack at my local comic shoppe. I've not read through KICK-ASS 2 (mainly because I can't find any back issues at the moment), so I'm not sure what went down between issues. At any rate the issue here opens with Hit Girl being led to prison...in the pouring rain...under heavy guard...with shackles tough enough to hold Wolverine (I assume.) Later panels have her all bundled up in a straight-jacket, lest she hurt herself (or, more likely, any of the guards...) Though I've the whole book I only scanned in the relevant pages for Kick Ass's failed gaol-break attempt. The last page here reveals that six months have passed since Mindy's incarceration. As a spoiler alert, Mindy has no appearances in issues #2 or 3, and her prison break by issue #4 is only talked about by the security forces and not actually drawn into the story. I'm currently waiting the release of issue #5...
