Welcome to the DPL...

Welcome to the Damsel Preservation League or "DPL" for short. Contained herein, you'll find a multitude of damsels of all ages worthy of preservation, as well as many links to current artists & writers of the DID genre, and many old-school favourites. Although this is basically a research type blog, there may be some occasional "mature" themed comics so, beware of this. Also this blog & is moderated to keep the spam to a minimum. The majority of the images are ones I've personally "rebuilt" from either my own collection or scans found elsewhere on the 'net. Any applicable copyrights belong to the owners and I make no money from them. Also note that this blog is still a work in progress and will be added to as I continue along...

Mary's Almost Buzzed

From WOW Comics #23 (Fawcett~March, 1944) comes this Mary Marvel story with a deep under-lying nod towards the evils of Hitler and the Hitler Youth movement. I often have to wonder if the writers of this story were falling back on the movie "Hitler's Children" that featured Bonita Granville and was released the year before (1943), for reference materiel. If you're a war historian like myself, I suggest you seek out the movie and draw your own conclusions. I highly recommend it.

This is also the only story I know of or have, that features poor Mary trussed to a log and heading for certain doom toward a huge buzz-saw! Correct me if I'm wrong and if so, clew me in to any other stories that may pertain to this. I recovered the old scans I culled from the DCM from an older folder and finally fixed them up as best I could. Read on...

Even reading this story to-day, one can still pick it apart and make comparisons to the evils of Nazi Germany.

Visions of concentration camps abound as Mary is fed into a "super furnace". Of course, the writer here envisions a temperature that is impossible but, there were usually elements of science-fiction in these stories anyway.

This will also be the last "Mary Marvel Monday" post for now. I have other stories but, the month of February will be solely dedicated to other characters and it will require the entire month to do so. Mary Marvel Mondays will return in March, 2014. And ere I leave her in limbo, here's the cover for WOW Comics #23...
