Welcome to the DPL...

Welcome to the Damsel Preservation League or "DPL" for short. Contained herein, you'll find a multitude of damsels of all ages worthy of preservation, as well as many links to current artists & writers of the DID genre, and many old-school favourites. Although this is basically a research type blog, there may be some occasional "mature" themed comics so, beware of this. Also this blog & is moderated to keep the spam to a minimum. The majority of the images are ones I've personally "rebuilt" from either my own collection or scans found elsewhere on the 'net. Any applicable copyrights belong to the owners and I make no money from them. Also note that this blog is still a work in progress and will be added to as I continue along...

That Damn Dot!

To say Dorothy (Dot) Polka was/is an enigma would be an understatement. Freud would have had a grand old time picking her brain apart. Dot often found herself in peril and if not from the neighbourhood bully, "Butchie", then by other means. Usually in her wild day dreams. The story below is one of those "day dream" examples, I scanned in from my copy of Super Richie #8 (Harvey~March, 1977.) Dot had issues...lots of issues (and I'm not talking about just the comic books...) Her obsession with dots was minor when compared to her "self-inflicted mental torture" and the other things she did (and did quite often.) She played hooky from school a lot. She loved the "toys" her Uncle Brane was always developing and often took them to use without permission but then, she took most things she found without permission, anyway. Yes, Dot was a thief, in my book. She also had a bad habit of "tagging" anything she could get a paint brush near. That's right, she was heavy into graffiti. But sometimes that worked to her advantage.

Dot was also kind of a sado-masochist. She'd put herself through some pretty painful moments all for the sake of seeing her damn dots! I wonder if this self-destructive behaviour was ever noticed by her parents...I've yet to find a story to the contrary, though she did get punished often mainly for being rude or not cleaning her room...

Look at the first page below...back in the '50's-'60's how many kids would go to such lengths to get sunburned on purpose?

Bullies were apt to single her out, especially when she wasn't particularly paying too close attention to what she'd just found, as in the case below...

...and I wonder how many kids would've done this, just to see how the rain falls? Heck, I'd get dizzy swingin' around the Maypole...

...or gettin' bitten by a bug! That's gotta smart but Dot just shrugs it off. I mean, the bite left such a nice "dot" on her nose, y'know?

Then there was her BFF, Lotta Plump, who often times aided Dot in her want for all things dotted. Medicine balls hurt but Dot doesn't seem to mind here. It's the dots she sees above her head that have her forgetting about the pain Lotta has just inflicted upon her. And here, she wants more of the same.

I tossed in this last page here just because it was so weird. I mean really...how many kids could inhale one of their BFFs? Stay tuned for more "Dot Tales"...they'll be getting even weirder...
