Welcome to the DPL...

Welcome to the Damsel Preservation League or "DPL" for short. Contained herein, you'll find a multitude of damsels of all ages worthy of preservation, as well as many links to current artists & writers of the DID genre, and many old-school favourites. Although this is basically a research type blog, there may be some occasional "mature" themed comics so, beware of this. Also this blog & is moderated to keep the spam to a minimum. The majority of the images are ones I've personally "rebuilt" from either my own collection or scans found elsewhere on the 'net. Any applicable copyrights belong to the owners and I make no money from them. Also note that this blog is still a work in progress and will be added to as I continue along...

Mary Marvel Gets Whipped

Author's note: Due to my moving and losing 'net service for a few days, I'm posting this edition of Mary Marvel Mondays a bit early. I hope to be back up and running by November 6, 2015.

Here's a rip on a certain Charles Dickens story I'm sure most of you are familiar with. From WOW Comics #29 (Fawcett~September, 1944), Mary Marvel goes up against "Phaygan", a crook bent on using the neighbourhood kids to rob for him. He also employs a bull whip for those that get out of line, as Mary soon finds out. Read on...

...and here's a nice, restored cover scan and one more detail panel...

Lucky's Premature Burial

It just seemed fitting to post this tale for the last day of the DPL Haunted Spectacular. Kind of putting the thing to rest, so to speak, heh, heh. No so for Lucky Wings, ace reporter, as she uncovers a plot (pun fully intended). Culled from the DCM and restored by me with new detail panels. From Voodoo #1 (Four Star Publications~May, 1952; under Farrell). Will Lucky be rescued in time? Or will she suffocate, never having been found? Read on....

...and a couple more details. If you've been following this here blog all through the past month (and then some), then I thank you. Maybe I'll do another Halloween/haunted DID special next year. Only time and story resources will tell. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Josie's Haunted Dreams

Beware of trinkets you buy at a garage sale! Or so this Josie story would lead you to believe. But her purchase of an old amulet leads to terrifying nightmares and an old, decaying mansion in this super-natural thriller. Scanned in from my personal collection; Josie and the Pussycats #68 (RADIO COMICS, INC.~April, 1973). Read along as Josie, Melody and Valerie confront and then vanquish some very ancient and very evil spirits. This is one of the better tales I've come across. Cover scan and bonus GGA detail panels (plus an additional panel of Melody getting "picked up") at the end. And though he's not credited on the page, I'm pretty sure this is the late Dan DeCarlo's work. Correct me if I'm wrong, please...

...here's some bonus goodies to fill your "trick-or-treat" bags, heh, heh...

Sabrina Meets Count Viktor

Here's a "light-on-peril" tale from Sabrina the Teenage Witch #65 (ARCHIE MUSIC CORP.~February, 1981) that has Sabrina unknowingly visiting a friend of her cousin Ambrose's...who just happens to be a vampire! Done strictly as a parody, Sabrina is never really in any danger. I can't say the same for ol' Drac....er... Viktor

Marge's Plant Horror

WARNING! The following story includes multiple death scenes and heavy plant vore. If any of this offends you then DO NOT READ IT! Culled from the DCM and newly restored from tiny, bad scans, comes this tale of a "death flower". From Tales of Horror #11 (TOBY PRESS, INC.~June, 1954). Note that most of the peril is of the GID sort and, luckily in this one, the damsel does survive. Also, this is a Purple Claw tale. If you are not aware of who he is, google it. Read on...

...here's another goodie for your treat bag...
