Welcome to the DPL...

Welcome to the Damsel Preservation League or "DPL" for short. Contained herein, you'll find a multitude of damsels of all ages worthy of preservation, as well as many links to current artists & writers of the DID genre, and many old-school favourites. Although this is basically a research type blog, there may be some occasional "mature" themed comics so, beware of this. Also this blog & is moderated to keep the spam to a minimum. The majority of the images are ones I've personally "rebuilt" from either my own collection or scans found elsewhere on the 'net. Any applicable copyrights belong to the owners and I make no money from them. Also note that this blog is still a work in progress and will be added to as I continue along...

Mary Marvel Goes Green

Despite the post title, there's nothing ecological about this tale from Mary Marvel #12 (Fawcett Publishing, Inc.~May, 1947). Here, Georgia Sivana is up to her old tricks as usual. The splash page is a rebuild of sorts (full explanation at the end of this story). There are multiple perils for Mary as Georgia goes on to "paint" the townsfolk green...literally. Have a read...

The book I culled this from, presented the usual challenges but also the horrible splash page. There was a bit of over-print or smudging on a couple of the panels. Mary's and Georgia's faces, in particular...

...my first attempt at a rebuild used a combination of copy/pasting bits & pieces of the actual colours from the panels, as well as using the colouring programme that came with my Mac. Mind you, I've never opted to use anything from Photoshop or GIMP. Plus, I'm well far behind when it comes to digitally colouring anything. Recolouring both faces in the 3rd panel, as well as rebuilding Georgia's head in the first one, were a bit...daunting. I did some digging on-line and found another version of this book, albeit in black & white. Testing on the first panel to replace Mary's face, via copy/pasting went pretty good so, I kept that result. I used my colouring programme for the rest...

Not satisfied with my initial results, I copy/pasted Mary's face from page 3, panel 5 to the 3rd panel on the splash page, which is the "new" lead page for this story. Got all that?

Mary Marvel's Cyclotron peril

Here's a sequence from Marvel Family #40 (Fawcett Publishing~October, 1949), in which Mary Batson finds herself in quite the predicament. This is from a full-length book. The story is titled "The Seven Wonders Of The Modern World". You can read the entire tale over at the DCM. If/when you read the book, you'll find that the story seems to be missing a page or two. Although it is not noted on the DCM, I feel that there should be a page where Captain Marvel rescues Mary (or how Mary gets loose), but there is not. Further investigation came up with nothing. Meh. At any rate, enjoy the restored sequence with all-new detail panels! Warning: there is GID.

Majorie Gets Menaced

Here's a quickie five-pager with only one real good scene from the Madam Fatal story, in Crack Comics #18 (Comic Magazines, Inc. under Quality Comics~November, 1941). The story briefly explains who "Madam Fatal" is. Have a read...

Mary Marvel's Damage Controlle

At first...I wasn't sure what to title this here post. So, I ended up with one that seemed to fit. This is the solo Mary Marvel story from Marvel Family #17 (Fawcett Publishing~November, 1947). Read on as Mary battles multiple tornadoes and a scheming insurance salesman...

Hentai Daphne

The image here is cobbled together from three (3) separate drawings of mine. I've been getting better at this "copy/paste" thing. At any rate, I guess it was just a matter of time before I did up my own (very lame) Hentai version of Daphne in "tentacle peril". The illustration below is for a "still-not-finished" short story I started back in 1995. Hell, I still don't even have a working title for it! Maybe, like the illo, I'll someday finish writing it. In the meantime...

Marion's Milieu

Here's a neat little sci-fi thriller from Adventures Into The Unknown #46 (Best Syndicated Features, Inc., under ACG~August, 1953). Bonus cover! There is some GID and early "tentacle" action! Have a read...

Clair Gets Cooking

Here's another story from Adventures Into The Unknown #46 (Best Features Syndicate, Inc., under ACG~August, 1953). For those old enough to remember (or those who have seen it anew) the 1970's "made-for-t.v." movie, Trilogy of Terror, this tale here could've spawned the idea for it...or not. At any rate, this is your basic "ancient-evil-soul-trapped-in-an-inanimate-object" tale. The splash page is not a "gotcha" one, either. Read on...
